A 31-year-old man from Stephenville is under investigation as the result of a St. Patrick’s Day crime spree spread out throughout the Bay St. George area.
It all started when a pickup was stolen from a business on Utah Drive in Stephenville around 5:00 Monday morning. That was around the same time as a break-in at a nearby business in which generators and a number of propane tanks were stolen.
Around 7:00 that same morning, an ATV was stolen in Fox Island River. The 2022 Can AM Outlander was stolen from a home but the homeowner who witnessed the theft followed the suspect. RCMP attempted to stop the operator but they got away.
Around 11:00 a.m. officers recovered the stolen pickup, still running, stuck in a snowbank near Crane Place in Stephenville. The stolen ATV, meanwhile, was spotted a short time later being driven along the T’Railway. The machine was recovered about 100 km away from where it was stolen in Heatherton, and the suspect was arrested nearby.
Police later received a report of another ATV that had been stolen sometime overnight from Point au Mal.
RCMP are still searching for the stolen 2019 Can Am Commander.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the RCMP (709-643-2118) or Crime Stoppers (1-800-222-TIPS (8477), online or on the P3Tips app).
